Mentoring Information

 Georgia Music Educators Association is comprised of approximately 3,200 members who are dedicated to the music education of Georgians of all ages.  The majority of our members teach in K-12 schools, colleges and universities.

 Active Membership

Active membership in MENC and GMEA is open to any person engaged in music teaching or other music-related educational fields.  Each active member has the right to vote and hold exective office.  Active members receive a subscription to the Georgia Music News.  First year teachers are eligible for an introductory membership fee which is ½ of the MENC active membership dues plus the GMEA dues.  Collegiate members receive a complimentary GMEA membership when they pay their collegiate MENC dues.  Retired members pay the MENC retired membership which is also ½ of the active dues plus the GMEA active membership fee.

How to Join

 Anyone engaged in music education may become an active member of GMEA and MENC by completing one of the following actions:

             .  Call MENC toll free at 1(800) 828-0229 between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.  Eastern Time.  The MENC receptionist will take your registration information and Visa  or Mastercard number.  You can initiate your membership immediately through one short phone call.  If you do this, please be sure to advise the GMEA office right away.   MENC sends the GMEA office membership updates once a month, so any applications you submit to the GMEA office should be accompanied by a confirmation of membership so that your applications will not be delayed in any way.

                You will need a Visa or Mastercard to complete the application process. 

            If you prefer to pay by check and register by surface mail, you may download the membership form and mail it with a check to MENC at the address on the bottom of the form.

 Introductory Active Membership 

Introductory Membership shall be open to persons in their first year of full-time music teaching or other music-related education work who have been collegiate members during the preceding fiscal year.  The membership shall be limited to one membership year.  Introductory members shall have the same privileges as active members except the right to hold executive office.  Each introductory member shall hold concurrent membership in GMEA, which is the state association of MENC.

 How to join

 Teachers who are entering the profession as a graduating senior Collegiate (CMENC) member are eligible for an Introductory Active Membership rate which is 50% of the active dues for MENC and includes GMEA rates.   Graduating seniors should receive application/announcement towards the end of March.  MENC checks student records and validates eligibility for Introductory Active Membership.  Registration is not available by phone or on-line.  For any questions regarding this membership category contact MENC by email at mbrserv@menc.org or by phone at: 1-800-336-3768.

Collegiate Membership

Collegiate membership is open to music students in teacher education programs at their college or university level who are not employed full time as teachers.  Collegiate chapter members have the same privileges as active members except the right to vote or hold elective office.  Each collegiate member receives a subscription to the Music Educators Journal.  Collegiate members hold concurrent membership in GMEA.

How to Join

Retired Membership

Retired membership is open to former music educators who have retired from teaching or other music-related educational work and who have been members of MENC for at least consecutive years prior to seeking retired membership status.  Retired members have the same privileges as active members except the right to hold elective office.  Each retired member receives a subscription to the Music Educators Journal.  Retired members hold concurrent membership with MENC and GMEA.

 How to Join
