Welcome to GMEA

GMEA President

President

Mary Land

Welcome to the Georgia Music Educators Association
website. GMEA is a state affiliate of the Music Educators
National Conference. GMEA is an organization of
approximately 4000 music educators dedicated to
promoting excellence in music education. As the president
of the Georgia Music Educators Association I find myself
excited by the opportunity, humbled by the honor, and
grateful for the loyalty and professionalism of our
membership. My goal is for us to work together to
communicate the significance of our profession to
everyone
in Georgia. Why is teaching music important?
How can we communicate our passion for teaching
music to those who make the powerful decisions in
today’s educational process?

I ask that every member of our association:

Continue your membership in MENC and encourage
all other music educators in your school district to join
as well. As individuals we are limited in what we
can achieve but by working together with the
Music Educators Associations across our country
we can accomplish almost any goal.

Actively participate in your GMEA division. The
educational experiences we provide our students
don’t just happen. They happen because talented
professional music educators rolled up their sleeves
and made them happen.  Check the GMEA calendar
and attend your district and division meetings.
Volunteer to organize or host an event.

Join us as we explore the “Tools of our Trade” at
our annual In Service Conference on
January 26-28, 2012
The Savannah International Trade &
Convention Center
Savannah, GA
Plan now to attend this year’s In Service Conference.
Reserve your substitute
early and arrange official leave now.

Be your own best advocate of your program.
Thriving music programs with parental support are
rarely eliminated.  Promote your music program both
within your school and in your community.

I am here to serve you and your needs.  Please contact me if I
can offer assistance to you or to your music program.  I
believe that "For today's students to succeed tomorrow,
they need a comprehensive education that includes music
taught by exemplary music educators."
I believe in the power of music!
